Video: Police CCTV bodycams in action

Avon and Somerset Police have been using high-tech CCTV bodycams to help them gain convictions against criminals and cut the cost of investigating and trying cases through the courts.

They were one of the first forces in the UK to start using these cameras in the fight against crime.

They use the bodycams to help them fight crime in hot-spot areas by enabling our officers to gather evidence that can be used in court.

They also use them to help cut the number of assaults against police officers by getting them to wear them at times when they are more likely to be attacked (such as when the are policing the night-time economy and during football matches).

The bodycams cost �500 per unit and have already helped police to gain convictions against numerous criminals in court.

Offenders are far more likely to plead guilty if they know that they have been captured on CCTV, saving the time and expense of taking cases to court.
