A NEW street sign was unveiled in Barton Hill in memory of a man who devoted decades to the people of the area.
Reg Gregory was a force to be reckoned with in the communities of Redfield, Barton Hill and St George. When he died in 2009, he left a legacy for the neighbourhood he had always called home.
He helped to shape the lives of hundreds of boys through 50 years of service with the local Boys Brigade, helped work colleagues through more than 60 years as a trades unionist and founded Barton Hill's Wellspring Community Centre – after he turned 80.
Now his name has been immortalised as a new street in the new Sovereign Homes development, part of the regeneration of Barton Hill.
Gregory Street was officially named in his honour in a ceremony attended by his daughter Josephine Moor and son Bob Gregory and local residents and representatives of community groups who knew and remembered Reg.
Bristol East MP Kerry McCarthy cut the ribbon on Gregory Street as part of the festivities.
